Music Monday is a weekly meme that many bloggers take part in. I picked it up from Drew, The Tattooed Book Geek. Music Monday is all about choosing a song you like and sharing it with everyone. I don’t do it every week, just when I have a song I want to share.
This time I wanted to do something a little different! Ya know, for the lols. I had a chat with fellow donut lover Sara on the twitter dot com about how I once travelled Canada playing Johnny Cash songs. Check out Sara’s book blog here.
I then remembered there was a video from the second time I visited Canada of us destroying a Johnny Cash song. So I spent quite a long time trying to find the video. You’ll be glad to know, I found it. Plus another video I had forgotten about. I decided a Music Monday would be the perfect way to bring my musical genius to your attention.
Now, this first video is of us butchering Folsom Prison Blues by the master Cash. To be fair, we were just jamming on the fly, with no rehearsal or structuring of our performance. I think after we started the song, we remembered we didn’t know the lyrics – but why should that stop us, right?! And it’s a bad camera microphone. We sounded supreme IRL!
Don’t be jel at how cool we were. The tall guy with the long hair is Bram – we were in Canada for his wedding. The guy with the red and black hair is me, without a beard! I know, what a handsome devil. And the santa looking dude sat down is Mr Norm. He was Bram’s best man. One of the most interesting
hippies men I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. I think this was about 2007-ish.
The second vid I came across is of me and a friend, Sam, doing a cover of We Are Gonna Be Friends by The White Stripes. This was never meant to to be serious. We often spent time making little comedy sketch videos, parodying TV shows that we liked. We once made a 20 minute long video of us doing (Not So Much) Time Team where we find a can of Fanta buried in a field. I shit you not. It had 3 adverts in it as well!! One of our adverts was for a product called Piss Pads. We were comedy geniuses!
This was probably 2004-ish. Before the youtubes dot com was a thing. After the youtubes dot com came about, we uploaded some of our vids. (Not So Much) Time Team is out there somewhere, but I can’t find it. Enjoy!
The guitar I am playing in both of these vids is a Tanglewood TW-15 NS. I really liked that guitar. It isn’t top of the range by any means, but it had a really nice tone to it and a super fast neck. People who played it were always surprised at how nice it was. I sold it a few years back when I was getting my guitar collection down.
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed these! Until next time, Peace and Love!
