Music Monday: Rock and Roll by Led Zeppelin

Music Monday is a meme created by Drew at the Tattooed Book Geek. Check out his blog!

Before creating this blog I had seen over on the twitter dot com that lots of people join in on Music Monday. I thought to myself, ‘If I ever have a blog, I’m gonna do that!’ Well, what do we know, I have a blog, so let’s do it!

No doubt over the coming weeks you will see that I have a rather varied taste in music. I can play a number of instruments and music has always played a major part in my life. When I was 17 I spent a couple of months travelling across Canada with a friend of mine. Just us two, a small suitcase and an acoustic guitar each. We just played lots of country music because that was sort of the thing in the places we visited. I enjoy some country music but it isn’t really my ‘go to’. I really like anything from acoustic indie because I’m a secret hipster to heavy metal, classic rock, the blues, motown, and the occasional guilty pleasure cheesy pop.

In my teenage years, I could always be found in the local music store. I loved just hanging around with musicians and learning by watching and replicating. I’ve never had any formal music lessons, but when you spend all your free time around talented people, you start to pick up tips and the such. I spent so much time in this store that they finally started to just pay me for jobs. I did everything from restoring old pianos, to selling and repairing guitars, to knocking down walls to expand the shop! I met many talented musicians and worked with producers and people in the biz. I worked with a guy that did the music for TV shows such as Phoenix Nights and The League of Gentlemen and another guy that did music for video games. It was a great couple of years for me and I look back on them with great fondness.

Anyway, on to today. I did spend a little time sitting and thinking about what should be my first Music Monday tune. I knew I wanted a good classic rock song. I finally narrowed it down to two. It was a toss up between Back in Black by ACDC and Rock and Roll by Led Zeppelin. Because it is absolutely the truth that Led Zep are the greatest rock and roll band of all time, they won.

Turn your speakers to 11, and enjoy!

It’s been a long time since I rock-and-rolled
It’s been a long time since I did the Stroll
Ooh, let me get it back, let me get it back, let me get it back
mm-baby, where I come from
It’s been a long time, been a long time
Been a long lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time
Yes, it has

It’s been a long time since the book of love
I can’t count the tears of a life with no love
A-carry me back, carry me back, carry me back
mm-baby, where I come from,whoa-whoa, whoa-oh-oh-hoh
Its been a long time, been a long time
Been a long lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time
Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah

  1. I actually totally love Led Zeppelin- they are everything that is good about rock ‘n roll! … my father is a bit of an old rock fart so he introduced me to Led Zeppelin, WASP, Electric Light Orchestra, etc when I was younger. So- this is a great pick to kick off the feature on your blog.
And your story about travelling and working in a music shop are mega! Sounds like you’ve had a ton of good times πŸ™‚

  2. Led Zeppelin and the Beatles are two bands that I am always in the mood to listen to. I am a pretty big Heavy Metalhead, but I can’t say that there aren’t some times I am just not in the mood to listen to certain bands in that genre. So, great pick! I was just reading an article about Led Zepp yesterday and had listened to a few songs, but not this one. Thanks for the link. πŸ™‚
